How to Type Armenian
There are three practical ways to write Armenian: type online in your browser, add an Armenian keyboard to your operating system, or write phonetically with Latin letters and convert.
Type Armenian online
The fastest option. Open the Armenian keyboard on the homepage, pick a layout and type with your physical keyboard or by tapping the on-screen keys. Nothing is installed and your text stays in your browser.
Type Armenian without installing anything
On shared, school or work computers you often cannot change system settings. A browser-based keyboard needs no permissions, so you can write Armenian, copy the result and paste it wherever you need it.
Add an Armenian keyboard on Windows
- Open Settings → Time & language → Language & region.
- Select Add a language, search for Armenian and install it.
- Open the language options and add the Armenian keyboard variant you prefer (Eastern, Western or Phonetic).
- Switch layouts with Windows + Space, or from the language button on the taskbar.
Add an Armenian keyboard on macOS
- Open System Settings → Keyboard.
- Next to Input Sources choose Edit, then the add button.
- Select Armenian and pick Eastern, Western or Phonetic.
- Switch inputs with Control + Space, or from the menu bar.
Physical keyboard vs virtual keyboard
The virtual keyboard is best when the Armenian letters are not printed on your keys or when you are on a phone. The physical keyboard is faster once you know a layout, the on-screen keys highlight as you press, which makes learning a layout easy.
Phonetic typing with Latin letters
If you do not want to learn a layout at all, use Latin → Armenian mode: type barev and get բարև, type Hayastan and get Հայաստան. You can edit the Armenian text afterwards.
